It's spelled "its" people!

There's something that's been bothering me ever since I started working at the station: people misspelling the possesive form of "it." It is spelled "its," without an apostrophe! It is not "it's," which is a contraction for it is or it has, and it certainly isn't "its'," which I had never seen until a press release came through to our station yesterday. Didn't we learn this stuff in the second grade? You don't spell "his" or "hers" with an apostrophe, so why do people insist on putting an apostrophe in the word "its?"

As a wordsmith, this really bugs the s*** out of me, which is probably good because it means I'm in the right profession. I just think that when people put stupid little mistakes like that in their writing, it means they didn't put enough time and effort into what they wrote.
